The creative portfolio checklist: 9 things every project page needs
A practical checklist for designers, photographers, filmmakers and makers: what to put on each portfolio project so clients understand your work fast.

A strong portfolio project shows the problem, your role, the process and the result, in that order. Use this checklist for every piece you post.
The checklist
- A clear title. Name the client or idea, not "Project 3".
- One-line summary. What it is and who it was for, in under 20 words.
- The challenge. One short paragraph: what needed solving?
- Your approach. Show the key decisions, with sketches, drafts or alternatives you rejected.
- The outcome. Real numbers if you have them (sales, views, sign-ups), otherwise what changed for the client.
- Credits. Everyone who worked on it, with their role, confirmed by them.
- The right format. Images for visual work, a YouTube link for film, a PDF for decks and zines, a live link for tools.
- AI disclosure. Say whether AI was used: none, hybrid or fully generated.
- A next step. Make it easy to reach you: availability status and a contact button.
Format tips
- Images: lead with your strongest frame; keep files under 10 MB.
- Video: upload to YouTube, then paste the link. It loads faster than self-hosted video.
- PDF: export at screen resolution so it opens quickly (under 20 MB).
- Tools: add a tagline, category and pricing so people know what they're clicking into.
On CREATIVESPERM, the project builder follows exactly this structure: text, quote, metrics, image, video and PDF blocks, plus credits. Start your first project.
